Operating under USC Technologies, Inc., U.S. Concrete’s National Research and Development Laboratory is constantly looking to pursue and develop commercially viable solutions that address the needs of owners, developers, architects, and engineers.
Since its inception in 2009, U.S. Concrete’s National Laboratory has developed high performance concrete mixes using supplementary cementitious materials. These new mixes not only outperform traditional concrete mixes relative to set times and early strength, but significantly reduce the products carbon footprint. In addition, the lab has developed ARIDUS® Rapid Drying Concrete, an innovative product that addresses moisture-related floor covering failures. This proprietary concrete mix dries faster than conventional mixes, allowing flooring materials to be installed faster and more effectively—avoiding costly flooring failures.
As part of its efforts to significantly improve the performance of concrete and develop new and innovative solutions, U.S. Concrete maintains strong academic-industrial partnership with research teams at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Arizona State University (ASU), along with other institutions worldwide. We work together to develop, test and enhance the use of alternative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in an effort to reduce greenhouse gasses, support sustainable construction and green building initiatives.
